Laelia purpurata is a fairly tall Brazilian Cattleya species that produces tall spikes of large colorful flowers in the summer. L purpurata was reclassified as a Cattleya a few years ago and can be called either a Cattleya or a Laelia.
There are many different varieties of L. purpurata and I find the schusteriana variety to be especially attractive with its pure white sepals and petals with a colorful lip. The ‘Valley Isle’ cultivar is shown and these plants are from a selfing of that plant.
These plants are established in 3.5″ pots and should be about 2 years from blooming size.
