Bc Maikai is a lovely primary hybrid of Brassavola nodosa and Cattleya bowringiana. The result is a fairly short but extremely vigorous plant that flowers with numerous stems of 5 or 6 flowers per stem, around Christmas. This easy-to-grow plant is a clone of the ‘Spotted Star’ cultivar, which was cloned many years ago by H&R Orchids and is classified as a classic Cattleya.
While not awarded, many prefer this cultivar because the flowers retain their vibrant colors with age and do not fade. The lips have dark lavender spots and lines and provide a good contrast against the lighter petals and sepals. Like the other Bc Maikai cultivars, this one also grows into a wonderful specimen.
These are established mature blooming size plants in 5″ pots with 15-20 growths per plant and I only have a few of them. They will bloom again in December.
